KUALA LUMPUR: The National Union of Teaching Profession has thanked the Government for allowing civil servants on the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) scheme to opt for the pension scheme.
NUTP secretary-general Lok Yim Pheng said many teachers who made the “wrong choice” of opting for the EPF scheme had been appealing for years that they be allowed to switch to the pension scheme.
“The Government’s decision will undoubtedly motivate the teachers,” Lok said in a statement.
The Government announced on Thursday that civil servants would be allowed to opt for the pension scheme from Feb 1, 2009.
