THE Education Ministry will study an Umno Youth proposal that History be taught at primary schools, so that younger schoolchildren will be both appreciative of and enlightened on the country's early years, its formation and the origins of the constitution.
Deputy Director General (School Division) Datuk Noor Rezan Bapoo Hashim said currently, History was not taught as an individual subject, but was incorporated into other subjects.
“We will study the proposal and hold brain-storming meetings with other sections within the ministry, including the Curriculum Development Centre, Teachers' Training Division, schools' inspectorate and the School Division.
“The relevant divisions will study the implications and leave it to the minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, to make the announcement,” Noor Rezan said after officiating the meeting of senior principals at Batu Pahat recently.
Meanwhile, all schools in the country will get to enjoy adequate supply of water and electricity by the year 2010, under the Education Development Master Plan.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk Razali Ismail, who attended a meeting with Selangor school principals in Shah Alam said that since the implementation of the master plan, about 70% of the schools in the country had been provided with the amenities.
He added that the ministry expected to provide the same amenities to the remaining number of schools, mostly located in rural areas, by 2010. There are 9,806 schools in the country, comprising 7,643 primary schools and 2,163 secondary schools, according to the ministry's website. – Bernama
