Selangor religious teachers to get more allowance

SHAH ALAM:

Teachers of religious primary schools and Fardhu Ain classes under the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (JAIS) will have their RM738 monthly allowance raised to RM1,000 from January next year, Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today.

He said 6,262 teachers were expected to benefit from the raise.

In view of the higher allowance, the teachers would be expected to raise their productivity and would be trained for multi-tasking, he said at the 2007 excellent service awards presentation for JAIS employees and farewell reception for retiring JAIS staff, here.

Abdul Khalid made the announcement in response to a request by JAIS director Datuk Muhammed Khusrin Munawi for the state government to consider higher allowances for the teachers in view of the recent increase in prices of essential goods and the allowance being less than the RM1,500 poverty line.

The menteri besar said the state government would consider raising the allowance to RM1,500 in two or three years’ time when its financial position allowed it.
At the function, Abdul Khalid also launched the “NCR Online” of JAIS set up to facilitate matters related to Muslim marriage and divorce.
